Mindless clicking

Not counting, or really bad accounting, brought me to spending endless weekends playing Bejeweled while watching my back episodes of US TV shows, surfing retail sites, and trying to write (more type) every bit of thought my mind toys with. What these "activities" tell me is that I've been spending so much time on here and not where I would be useful enough.

These days, there's not getting around the Internet. If you don't check your Facebook or Twitter feed, you miss out on what he/she/they were talking about, and you're out of the loop. You get your orders via email, you check out good and bad reviews of the places you wanna try. We're so connected to everyone and everything but our social skills? Man, we all suck at that department.

Imagine writing letters, and spending endless hours on the phone, and traveling to see people and talk to them and be with them. All the bull that you get to endure, all the green and blue and brown that you get to see when you travel, all the ink and paper and envelopes used sending all those mail - only sentimental people do all of these now.

I'm not saying that the Internet is a bad thing. It's a thing that replaced a lot of things and for what? For us to be productive, for us to have the time for the important stuff. But most of us get sucked in to the magic of the words growth and productivity and saving time but what are all these? What is growth anyway? What are we growing into? What are we saving time for? We get cracking at dawn, get moving, get on our way, fight our way 8-16 hours per day in front of a computer or on the phone or in a meeting or in class or at a site and we go home and try to build relationships with other humans in our lives with what remains of the 24 hours we have everyday. Less time for other people, that's what we have.
